Easy Ways to Combat Allergies When Outside This Summer Without Medications

Monitor Pollen Counts
While there’ll be pollen in the air no matter what, if you head out on days where the pollen counts are low or minimal, then you’ll have a much easier time.
Change Your Air Filters
Pollen can build up in your furnace and A/C over time and spread the particles throughout the house even after the blooming has stopped. Switching out for a more specialized filter helps even more, but if you don’t want to break the bank then a regular swap will do fine.
Avoid Hanging Clothes Outdoors
The long, warm days make it tempting to use the sun as a natural tumble dryer, but be careful! Pollen can stick to clothes and is more likely to irritate you whether you wear them inside or out.
Eat Local Honey
It might be a bit pricy, but it’s a delicious sweetener, it has a tony of uses, it supports your local farmers and apiaries, and most importantly—it safely exposes your body to local plant pollen. Small amounts of local blooming pollen ends up in honey since local bees use those plants to make the sticky syrup. By exposing your body to smaller amounts of it, you help your body adapt its overzealous immune system and “relax” around the pollen it treats as an irritant—a way of talking it into calming down.
