YouTube is Amazing for Medical InformationMonday, February 27th, 2012, 4:27 am
Base of Tongue Reduction is a video of Dr. Thrasher performing a base of tongue reduction on 2 patients for their severe obstructive sleep apnea. It was put together by Dr. Christopher Chang who has become a good friend of Dr. Thrasher's and has one of the most visited ENT sites on the web. While there is hardly any blood in this video, it's not necessarily for the squeamish.
Drs. Thrasher and Chang's video has been viewed on YouTube over 4.5 million times in the last 3 years. It has generated visits to our clinic from all over the world. The farthest patient has come from Australia, but there have been patients from 28 of the 50 states.
It truly is amazing what the web can do to inform and inspire.
Dr. Thrasher will be the first to say that CPAP is always the preferred option for OSA, but if it is not tolerated or cannot be used for whatever reason, surgery is a potential weapon against the deleterious effects of OSA. If you would like to discuss surgical options for your obstructive sleep apnea, call us and make an appointment.
