Gretchen Champion, M.D.
Dr. Gretchen Champion specializes in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and treats both pediatric and adult patients with ear, nose, throat and allergy disorders. She is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology.
Dr. Champion completed her otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at Washington University in St Louis where she trained at Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children’s Hospitals. The ENT program is one of the busiest surgical programs in the country and routinely ranked in the top ten by US News and World Report. While in training, she served as head and neck surgery chief resident and received several awards including the prestigious Head and Neck Surgery Teaching Award from her fellow residents. Prior her surgical residency training, Dr. Champion obtained her M.D. from Washington University in St. Louis, (ranked #3 by US News and World Report Medical Schools for research) where she was an Alpha Omega Alpha honors graduate and received the Robert Carter Award for excellence in research and academics. She graduated with straight A’s from the honors program at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
She is active in several professional societies, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology, the American Rhinologic Society, and Society for Ear, Nose, and Throat Advances in Children. Her research interests include neonatal hearing loss, head and neck cancer, and microbiology. Her clinical interests include pediatric surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and recurrent ear infections. She performs the Pillar procedure, balloon sinuplasty and employs in-office video imaging for the diagnosis and treatment of sinus disorders, voice disorders, and cancer screening and diagnosis. She has been recognized as a fellow in the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and voted by her peers “Best Doctor” in D Magazine for 2009, 2010.
Beyond her practice, Dr. Champion was recently selected by her peers as Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen. In addition, she is a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Texas-Southwestern in Dallas, where she teaches surgical residents and medical students.
Richard Thrasher, M.D.
Dr. Richard Thrasher is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and his medical degree from the University of Connecticut. He completed a general surgery internship in Denver before going on to an Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. While in residency, Dr. Thrasher trained at Denver Children’s Hospital (routinely rated in the top 5 children’s hospitals in the country) and has a particular interest in pediatric ENT.
Upon completing residency, Dr. Thrasher served on clinical faculty with the University of Nebraska Department of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery while he served as a Major in the USAF for 3 years at Offutt AFB in Nebraska. During this time he won three awards for best instructor as a clinical preceptor for family medicine residents and physician assistant students. He also served as medical director of the surgical service and chief of otolaryngology at his base hospital. He was the first otolaryngologist in Nebraska, and the first in the Air Force, to perform the new Balloon Sinuplasty surgery. He was also the first otolaryngologist in Nebraska to perform an innovative procedure on the base of the tongue for sleep apnea and remains one of only a handful of surgeons in the country performing and training other surgeons on the technique.
Since moving to north Texas, he has already been featured in numerous local magazines including D Magazine; and NBC news has aired a story on Dr. Thrasher’s contributions in the advancement of sleep apnea surgery. After having lived in the area for less than 18 months, he was selected to become the vice-chair and then chair of the department of surgery at the Medical Center of McKinney. He has authored several publications and remains active in pursuing clinical research in sinusitis and sleep apnea. Dr. Thrasher’s special interests include pediatric ENT, snoring/obstructive sleep apnea, thyroid surgery, and sinus surgery. He is an avid golfer, admits to playing several sports poorly, and is a self-proclaimed technology geek. He lives with his wife and 2 children in McKinney.
M. Benjamin Brindley, M.D.
Dr. M. Benjamin Brindley is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and specializes in pediatric and adult ear, nose, and throat disorders. He recently joined the Ear Nose and Throat Centers of Texas moving from a successful practice in Plano. Dr. Brindley is a Texas native. He grew up in Waco, the son of a well-respected otolaryngologist. He graduated Magnum Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a degree in biomedical science. He went on to University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston where he also developed an interest in otolaryngology and decided to follow in his father's footsteps.
Dr. Brindley completed his residency training at the University of Iowa Department of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery which is routinely ranked as one of the top three departments in the nation - http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/rankings/ear-nose-and-throat. While there he did research on antioxidant enzymes and their role in head and neck cancer. His patients nominated and awarded him the prestigious "Above and Beyond" award for patient care. He had the privilege of training under Dr. Bruce Gantz and Dr. Richard Smith, both of whom are on the forefront of otology and pediatric otolaryngology respectively. His clinical interests include pediatric ENT, sinonasal surgery, endocrine surgery as well as the diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea.
